Electricians are highly-trained, specializing in installing and repairing electrical systems and controls. These skilled tradespeople install, maintain, and repair electrical power, communications, lighting, and control systems in homes, businesses, and factories. In the wired world we are living in, Electricians are more in demand than ever before. This is an industry sector experiencing high growth, and industry experts expect there to be a shortage of qualified, skilled electricians in coming years.

At NCE you can train to be an Electrician in as few as 10.5 months! The Electrician program at NCE prepares students to begin an entry-level career in the electrical industry. Students learn electrical code, wiring installation, conduit bending, motors and transformer systems, as well as manual and electric industrial controls, and more. Students obtain real-world experience through hands-on, practical training by industry professionals. Graduates will be capable of working in residential and industrial maintenance environments, and will also be able to execute new construction electrical work.

Upon completion of the program, NCE graduates are prepared to test for the State of California Electrical Trainee (ET) certification.

Journeyman Electricians are electricians who have acquired the training and experience necessary to work independently, but who have not attained licensure as master electricians. Journeyman electricians may work with electrical wires, fixtures and control systems in commercial, industrial and residential buildings, but typically do not design the initial electrical system for a building, which is usually done by a master electrician.

Master Electricians are certified to supervise other electricians, own a private business or work as a licensed contractor. Master Electricians are responsible for the advanced work involving interpreting construction blueprints and diagrams, using software for project management, following and enforcing Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines, and driving forklifts and other large machines. Master Electricians are often in charge of the installation and maintenance of electrical systems in homes, businesses and institutions. Their duties include wiring, replacing breakers, designing electrical plans for a new home, installing lighting fixtures and servicing electrical appliances.
